Burnley welcome Nelson to board of directors

This Is Lancashire: Brian Nelson Brian Nelson

BURNLEY Football Club have today unveiled long-time supporter Brian Nelson as the latest addition to the boardroom.

The 65-year-old, who was born in Nelson and still lives in the Pendle area, becomes the Clarets’ fifth director and takes up the position with immediate effect.

Nelson, who became an associate director in November 2011 and is the co-owner of established textile manufacturers Parklane Textiles Ltd, said: “I am proud to join the board of the club I have supported all my life and an institution that I have already demonstrated my commitment to over the years.

“The board has done a great job in positioning the club for a sustainable future and joining the team gives me an opportunity to support the club in a very practical way.”

Nelson has already enjoyed a strong relationship with the club over the years, having previously financed team flights to away games and sponsored new equipment for the Academy.

Most recently he participated in the Turf Moor Bond, a process which enabled the club to repurchase its Turf Moor home and Gawthorpe training base.

This is the antithesis of Rovers isn't it? Local man with a love for the club and everything it stands for, as opposed to a bunch of people on another continent who probably didn't even know where Blackburn was until they bought the club. I'll wager he fully understands the concept of promotion and relegation as well. He's probably not awash with money but, as has been shown at other clubs, that is not always a good thing.
Local people are always the best option unless there is an obscene amount of money involved and even then the FFP is supposed to be curtailing that, although I don't for one moment think it will happen. With good lawyers and creative accounting I don't think the Chelseas and Citys of this world are going to be troubled any time soon.
Anyway, welcome on board good sir and may the relationship be a fruitful one.

No, the Nelson family, There's a whole town full of 'em. He had to be a Burnley supporter with a name like Nelson. Anyway, I thought the Adams family had upsticks and moved to Pune?

Its nice to have a board of directors who have the best interests of our club at heart. Unlike you clowns with a bunch of clueless Indian chicken farmers running the show and a Malaysian stand-up comedian hiring and firing one no-hope manager after the next and then paying off said managers like he's giving away Monopoly money. The shambles of a club that used to be Blackburn Rovers should look upon Burnley as a role model for how a proper, decent football club should be run and strive to be more like their illustrious neighbours. Unfortunately the financial black-hole currently engulfing your club is likely to mean that we spend very little time in the same division in the future. Cheerio.

When you look at the comparisons written down in black and white it's quite startling that some of the deluded ones come on here and start making derogatory comments. It just doesn't add up. It makes about as much sense as going to a Jimmy Carr gig and attempting to make fun of him; you just wouldn't do it would you?

It does make sense. They have nothing from their own club to write home about and their jealousy has reached such proportions they seem to feel they must try to make derogatory comments about the mighty clarets. The thing is there is nothing to criticize. They go on about small squad, low crowds, all irrelevant matters. And they are desperately hoping for injuries to our key players. Really – how low can you get. It all shows how far they have fallen and how well Burnley have organized the club. They are GREEN with envy.

There's plenty of planks on here for you to walk Mr Nelson, WLUV likes a stroll as does the MUG, both planks are short and thick, but both need muxzzles out in public and need walking seperately to stop them sniffing eachothers arses
Mr Bacon butty boy is just a plank, not thick at all, but not funny with it either, most people just ignore his droning no mate buzz as it gives you a headache

Have you been on the Christmas crack pipe again?

Having been above Wovers all season I remember some of your earlier comments such as,

"The season has only just started, it won't last."

"Wait until you play the teams that are in the top half of the league."

"You haven't played any of the top 6 yet."

"It's a long season. Wait until Christmas and see where you are then."

Well, it is Christmas and guess what? We are still streets ahead of you!

Just take a look at the league, the financial state and management of both clubs, and the image that Wovers project. It's one of ludicrous decisions, crazy owners, hostile supporters and 'match fixing' players.

Having a local man take an active interest in the running of the club is a great thing and something that should be applauded. One thing is for sure, I bet he shows his face on match days unlike Venkys who despise setting foot in Deadwood.

Can't say I blame them either?

Top of the league for 9 out of the last 11 weeks?
1 defeat in 16 (sixteen) league games?
2 (two) defeats all season?
Financial security?
Best strike partnership outside the prem (and probably better than most there)?
Goal difference worth an extra point?

A top manager with knowledge and integrity?
Unbeaten at home for 10 (ten) months?
Now if your lot could boast that little lot you really would be laughing so much your sides hurt. As it is if Burnley were in your rabble's situation I would be crying my way through Christmas. If your season begins and ends with what happens at Burnley why don't you come along and join the fun, it's great.
