Defensive duo return from injury as Burnley secure League Cup win over Preston
FIT-AGAIN Michael Duff and Ben Mee made their return to action in last night’s 2-0 win over Preston North End in the second round of the League Cup.
The defensive duo missed the start of the season through injury, but Sean Dyche reintroduced the pair following Saturday’s defeat at Brighton.
Kieran Trippier and Danny Ings scored to give the Clarets victory over their Lancashire rivals at Turf Moor.
Mee, who sustained a knee injury in the pre-season friendly at Cork City, replaced Danny Lafferty at left back against the Lilywhites.
Duff, who was sidelined by a groin injury, came in for Kevin Long.
Dyche was content with the Clarets’ progression in the League Cup, saying: “We never expected an easy game, I think us scoring early in a strange way gave them a bit more freedom.
“The second goal calmed it down a bit but in the second half they really stepped on to us and tried to stop us from playing which worked for a while until we gathered our thoughts and started using the ball it better.
“We created enough overall of good quality chances to win the match.
“Vokesy had one cleared off the line.
“I was reasonably pleased with the performance.
“We’re a work in progress but the main thing is it’s a clean sheet and two goals.”
