FULL-TIME: Charlton 0, Burnley 1

CHARLIE Austin's first-half strike was enough to earn Burnley their first win in seven games.

The Clarets top scorer produced a goal of the season contender in the 43rd minute with a right foot rocket into the top right corner.

Burnley had taken the game to Charlton, who had lost their previous three home games, and dominated the first half.

Martin Paterson had the ball in the net but had strayed offside, similarly when he was denied by the crossbar. Austin had an earlier header comfortably saved by David Button.

Junior Stanislas and debutant Alexander Kacaniklic were lively on either flank, and caused the Addicks defence problems.

But it wasn't until two minutes before the break that Burnley had something to show for their efforts.

Austin's 25th goal of the season was arguably his best so far as, from 25 yards, the striker fired a stunning right foot shot into the top right corner.

The Clarets came under pressure in the second half, with Charlton desperate to end their home hoodoo.

But despite countless balls going into their box, Burnley defended stoically to hold onto their lead and clean sheet for a welcome win.

Ok. Where did this come from? Burnley get a result away from home, totally against run of form. You can have all the statistics you want, you can know all the variables that might affect the game, but in the end, it is how the teams turn up on the day.
Teams that are quite consistent throughout the season - like Man Utd, will throw in an 'under-performance' here and there, but more often than not, you can tend to safely back them, but Burnley put the 'G' in gamble, and they're not the only team that does this. Like many other teams they are consistent in one thing, and that is inconsistency.
Look at Rovers. On paper they look a good strong team, and yet the way they are playing now, they are becoming the team everyone wants to play for the points their under-performing players give away...Peterborough will no doubt be sending flowers to Appleton in thanks!
Next up for them is Bolton on Tuesday, and Bolton are currently playing to a consistent patch of good form, so I expect them to take the points off a woeful Rovers side?
The Clarets, meanwhile, entertain Barnsley at home, but I dare not expect them to take the points because of their inconsistency. They are up and down with their form more times than my girlfriend's underwear (no! she's not my sister, just in case any of the mourners from Blackburn are reading). Nevertheless, another 3 points will be gratefully accepted by this Dingle, just as much as the very unexpected 3 that they gave us today. Football...it's a funny old game.

Well done agent Dick Van Dyke. One win in seven will bamboozle the fartherless into thinking they've won the league. Keep up the smoke and mirrors, they fall for it every time.

They're also gonna destroy us in the derby game again (that they exist for) like they convinced themselves last time and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that and the time before that.....

Not much going on in the lives of these two losers. They are clearly so delusional that they can somehow find some way of turning a home defeat to the bottom team in their league while their social superiors were winning away in that London into some kind of 'triumph'!

Their carers need reporting for this lapse of supervision over two of the worst examples of human life in their care.

There you go again dripping on about 34 years and waiting.............
..............

Well I'm sure you have looked at the stats in those 34 years.

In terms of league games since our last win at deadwood on the 14th April 1979 the teams have met 7 teams.Thats lots isn't it in 34 years, pathetic really.

That equates to 4.86 years between games. So really It's hardly a decent record to keep drippng on about compared to other teams who have derby games season in season out.

Now it would be a decent record to brag about had we played each other season after season. Which as a guy who loves football and as a Burnley supporter would love to see because that is what these games are about, great for both sets of fans and clubs.

League meetings total 38 wins Rovers 35 wins Burnley with 14 drawn games. So yes Rovers have a 3 game advantage .

However It's only in this so called run of 34 years that you have clawed yourselves ahead of the clarets. Where at the time of our last win read 35 wins Burnley with 32 wins for Rovers and 13 draws.

There is no denying the fact that the meetings since 79 have gone in Rovers favour with 6 wins and 1 draw (In 34 years), In league games but the tide will turn one day.

Really though other fans from clubs who meet season after season in big derby games must be laughing with embarrassment at his 34 years and counting lark.

Still win or lose I would love for our games to be played year in year out.

Great win yesterday UTC
