Burnley boss baffled by Marney red card
9:09pm Saturday 26th January 2013 in Sport
BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche admitted he was “flummoxed” by referee Darren Drysdale's decision to send of Dean Marney for a second half tackle, which ultimately cost them the game against Birmingham City.
The midfielder competed with Birmingham's Paul Robinson for a 50-50 ball after Ross Wallace had cancelled out Curtis Davies' first-half opener from the spot.
Marney was red carded in the 61st minute for what the referee described as “excessive force”.
Replays showed he had won the ball firmly, but fairly.
Birmingham went on to capitalise on their extra man with Marlon King scoring an 89th minute winner.
“That is my 16th game and I’ve had three sendings off, one for a deliberate hand ball that wasn’t, one for mistaken identity and one for a tackle that was just a great tackle,” said Dyche.
“I don’t know where the line is drawn any more. It’s a hard tackle, but low on the floor and taking the ball cleanly.
“I'm flummoxed at the moment.
“I can’t even fathom how that the referee can later tell me that was ‘excessive force’. Do we now have to tackle softly?
“To be fair, (Birmingham manager) Lee Clark actually came over to me and said he though it was his player being sent off. That’s how strange it was!”

Also Robbo was hurt which if he is hurt the tackle must be iffy.
Also there was a tackle on Hall eary on which the ref was very lenient.
What about the wonderful winner did anyone in Burnley not appreciate that?

That tackle may have been Ok in 1956 or when Dyche was playing but its time some of you woke up to the realities. Lunging studs first is no longer tollerated.

The weight from his electronic ankle tag helps him generate more power.
I'm sure that his victim was wax lyrical about his goal as well.
He's a good player to be fair but not exactly a role model eh?

I'd like a rematch with an REAL ref not one that wrongly sent a man off and to be fair, gave us a penalty to try and make amends, that was never a penalty!!!
A draw would've been fair but hey refs happen!
Good look for the rest of the season.

Dyche is right it was just a hard tackle. Players are going to have to say excuse me before a tackle soon. The ref had a shocker all the match. In fact he was behind Marney when he made an Instant decision so he would not have seen him get the ball.. Not even a foul. It is a good thing Paul Scholes is retring if this is the way its going he would have had 100 Red Cards. Burnley should appeal this and this ref should try under 11's netball.

Yes they were. You're as blinded by dingle mania as the manager! Got battered at home with 9000 home fans and the rest the away support. Pathetic. Small club, small town and small ambition. Truth does hurt!!!

Watching away matches on tv is the nearest you get to foreign travel probably. Find it fascinating that you tune in to watch the mighty blues tho Tod - there's hope yet!!!!
What made me laugh was that followers of other teams commented how poorly supported you were.
To be fair anon, I stuck up for you saying that rovers fans think they are a massive club compared to lowly burnley. I pointed out that you command far bigger crowds than us and have a bigger trophy cabinet etc etc. You know all the nonsense rovers fans come up with?
They did all say that I might be better off going home as I obviously have a drink problem.

.
Did you miss the tackle when Lafferty cartwheeled through the air?
.
Great control and shot from King, he wouldn't have had the opportunity if there had been 11 v 11 on the pitch!!

Some would say that, over the season, it's a case of swings and roundabouts.
Me ??
I don't think so, and I'm a Rovers fan.
