The Olympic year track and field season is now underway and a number of Blackheath & Bromley’s Senior and Junior athletes have been in action around the country and the world.

In the United States at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, Jonathan Ilori leapt 14.77 in the triple jump. He has also recently run 11.06 for the 100 metres and recorded a 15.06 wind assisted triple jump. With a best of 15.26 Jonathan will be aiming for the 15.70 required for selection for the World Junior Championships which take place in Barcelona in July.

In Los Angeles, sprinter James Alaka moved up in distance to time 48.95 for 400 metres.

Closer to home in Nottingham, Sam Milner opened her first season as a Senior Woman with a personal best in the discus of 45.70. Izzy Jeffs, who has joined the Club as a second claim member, won the javelin with 50.63.

At Hornchurch in the Havering Open Meeting, Alloy Wilson ran 50.0 for the 400 metres and under 20 400 hurdler Craig Morten gained some useful endurance work as he set a new best of 2.02.1 over 800 metres.

Hammer thrower Andrew Jordon has also been in action recently. He threw 59.58 at the Crookham Common Open Throws Meeting.

The Club will be looking to see these and more athletes competing at team fixtures in the month of April. The Women compete in the Alpha Beta Trophy Meeting at Lee Valley this Saturday (the 7th ) a fixture that caters for the Senior and Under 15s age groups. (Under 20s and Under 17s are able to compete in the Senior age group). The men compete in the Sward and Kinnaird Trophy Meetings on the 21st and then the following weekend the Southern Athletic League season starts on the Saturday at Norman Park with the Under 20s in action the following day in the National Junior Athletics League at Eton.

As the Club fields teams in all age groups from under 13s upwards to the Masters age groups it always welcome new members. The Club has a Competition Policy which aims to provide appropriate levels of competition to all athletes of all abilities.
