Istead's runners brave the cold

Last weekend at Epsom race course, three of our members took part in the annual 10 mile road race, a pleasant road race through the Surrey countryside.
Mary Penfold achieved a personal best over the distance; leading home Istead’s other two runners. Jan Giles made it an even more successful day for the club by winning the Ladies Over 65 category.
Also running last week was Joe Cumberland, who was our sole competitor in the Ashford Tri Club’s off road event over 6.66 miles. Joe finished in a very commendable 6th place.
This weekend, the club had its usual strong turnout at the Kent Fitness League event at Oxleas Woods on Sunday. Nineteen members turned out to race round the tough circuit, though thankfully it wasn’t as muddy as in some previous years. Simon Parrin led home the men while Sue Beecham was our first lady home.
A little further afield, Alan and Margaret Mary Cowan took part in the Hugh Wilson Memorial 10k road race on Saturday 28th, while visiting family in East Kilbride, Scotland. The race is held annually in memory of one of Alan’s old clubmates who was fatally knocked down while running to work back in the 1980s.
