On an unusually warm September weekend, Istead and Ifield Harriers took part in several popular races.
The inaugural Tonbridge half Marathon took place at the weekend, and as always the usual suspects from Istead and Ifield were there to try out the new course. Simon Parrin finished well clear of the rest of the club’s participants, finishing in 13th position overall from over 800 runners. Barbara Ockenden was first for the ladies.
At the Folkestone Rotary Half Marathon, Joe Cumberland ran another steady race to come home first for the club in a time of 1hr 27 minutes and 35 seconds.
More exotic than either of the above, Stephen Barnsley and Angela Hames travelled to Germany for the Berlin Marathon. Angela wasn’t able to take part, but Stephen ‘enjoyed’ the atmosphere and was one of 32,996 runners who followed Kenyan, Patrick Makau through the streets of Berlin in a new World Record Time (Patrick that is, not Stephen).
Last weekend at Faversham, seven club members took part in the 10k race which raises funds for Cystic Fibrosis. Peter Gibson was the first man home for Istead and Sarah Dand, making her return to racing, was our first female finisher.
