Harriers clean up at Southend

THE recent Southend track & field open meeting saw four members of Dartford Harriers bag nine medals.

As well as winning six golds and three silvers, they also produced two personal bests and a new club record.

David Hall's gold medal high jump of 2.01m was a pb, U17 club record and places him at number two in the UK rankings.

Hall's excellent day continued with a javelin gold for 45.21m and a discus silver with 29.00m.

In the U17 ladies’ throws, Hannah Searing and Chelsey Eyers performed well.

Searing won the hammer with 38.33m, just short of her pb, and was second in the javelin with 22.56,.

Eyers won the discus with a pb of 28.88m.

Senior man Alex Lee won the long jump with 6.19m, the 200m in 24.9s and was second in the 100m in 12.00s.

Hall was selected for the London area at the UK Schools Games on Saturday at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium, where Ireland, Scotland and Wales were competing for the honours against several English regions.

The Dartford harrier won high jump silver with a leap of 1.96m.

He is now ranked number one in the UK U17 eight-event octathlon and travels to Exeter on September 17 and 18 for the English schools combined events championships.

Saturday was also the date for the open track & field games at Ashford's Julie Rose Stadium.

Eight members of Dartford Harriers took the opportunity to compete in the open graded meeting with accurate electronic timing.

Isio Orugun's 200m win in a time of 27.0s equalled a club record set in 1981 and exceeded an AAA Grade 1 performance which is set at 28.4s.

Lucy Hickmott claimed her eighth 300m hurdles win this season by equalling her pb of 46.0s.

Ama Obiomah made an impressive debut for the club by winning the U17 men’s 100m (11.66) and the 200m (24.03).
