FOLLOWING the opening round at Barrow, the Mid Lancs Cross Country League made its first visit of the season to our area on Saturday for a meeting at Witton Park in Blackburn.

Three local clubs took a maximum advantage by fielding winning teams – the Harriers of Rossendale, Blackburn and Clayton.

First off the mark was Rossendale as Leah Williamson, Megan Davies, Rebecca Flanagan and Megan Solomon all finished in the top 11 of the U15 girls’ race.

Sally Searson beat them all to finish third for Blackburn, and there was another third for them with Rob Warner in the U17 men’s event.

He was well backed as Dominic Walton and Dominic Mahoney helped the team to a three-point advantage over Lancaster.

Clayton’s best moment came in the very last race when their veteran men – Andy Stubbs, Jason Harbour, Paul Archer and Alan Life – sealed their victory.

Alexa McTiffin of Hyndburn and Blackburn’s Rebecca Shorrock were the respective winners of the U11 girls’ and U20 women’s races.

Both athletes were also first home at Barrow.
