Respectable effort from Istead veterans

ISTEAD & Ifield’s over 50s men’s team placed ninth at the Kent veterans cross country championships on Saturday.

A milder wind caused runners no difficulty and there was not too much mud on the course for a change.

The course was set around flat fields with an interesting hilly section in a short woodland section.

Ladies and over 60s men ran two laps of the 2,400m course, while the 40+ and 50+ men had four circuits to complete.

Eight Istead runners took part in total.

Results:

Over 35 ladies: 15th Lynne Champion 22m49s; 22nd Claire Ward 29m06s.

Over 45 ladies: 16th Sue Beecham 24m53s; 29th Jeannette Giles 34m51s.

Over 40 men: Mark Champion.

Over 50 men: Fourth Ray Pearce 33m45s; 37th Steve Cason 40m20s; 39th Alan Cowan 40m41s.

Over 60 men: 29th Bob Carter 25m49s.

The following day saw an annual favourite take place, the Ditton turkey trot race.

Ran over seven miles, five Istead competitors turned up for a showery run over a variety of surfaces.
