LAST Sunday was a very hot day indeed, both on and off the course at Shortlands Golf Club.
Club captain Brian Hone was hosting his Prize Day when he managed a hole inone at the second hole.
This demanding par 3 measures some 140 yards from the back tee and Hone used a six iron to achieve his feat.
His whoop of exhultation was heard across several fairways.
Captain's Prize Day is the top event in the club's calendar, consisting of 27 holes played over a course stretched to its full yardage.
Only the best survive this ultimate golfing test and so it proved with temperatures soaring into the 80s.
Eventually, the top golfer for the day was Keith Fuller as his precision play carried him to the captain's top prize.
Hone’s ace proved to add to his outgoings that day, as tradition dictated he bought those playing a drink.
This he duly did for a group of very thirsty golfers and yet he continued to smile throughout.
