Leigh Lennon has finished third in the 800 metres at the Celtic Cup Indoor International in Cardiff.

The 17-year old Ribble Valley athlete (pictured) was representing the England U20 Team in a Home International match and clocked 2:14.61 behind Ciara Everard of Ireland and Jade Williams of Wales.

l Blackburn Harrier Karl Billington was sixth U17 at the English National Cross Country Championships held at Parliament Hill Fields in London.

Rossendale duo Ashley Kay and Jordan Beard were 62nd and 110th in a field of 285. Dale were strongly represented despite the long journey involved and Elliot Wylie and Danny Walsh made 115th and 147th in the U15 boys race with Megan Davies taking 128th for the U13 girls. The senior men’s race attracted almost 1500 runners and Ben Lindsay from Brierfield was 14th for his Aldershot club while Blackburn Harrier Tom Cornthwaite took 91st spot.

Sarah Tunstall from Kendal, now working in Clitheroe, was runner up to Hatti Dean in the women’s senior contest.

l Blackburn Harrier Pauline Powell was the winning woman at the Great North Western Half Marathon at Blackpool.

The race attracted 1200 entrants yet Pauline was 11th outright in 1:16:58.

Chris Davies from Telford won in 1:07:28 with Andy Buttery fourth for Rossendale Harriers in 1:300:00. Seventh placed Phil Hall was second vet and first over 45 as he led home a large Clayton contingent contesting a round of their Club Championship. Phil clocked 1:16:02 with Andy Stubbs 15th in 1:18:37.

Tracy Mitchell was ninth woman in 1:27:15 and there were class wins for three local women.

Davina Raidy of Rossendale took the over 40s, Sue Burns from Clayton the over 50s and Blackburn Road Runner Norma Smith headed the over 60s. Sue won her class by 11 minutes while Norma had 20 minutes in hand over her closest rival.

l Blackburn Harriers have arranged a disco to mark the end of the Lancashire Sportshall League following their best ever results.

In the final fixture held at Stanley Park in Blackpool, the Harriers’ team of 26 athletes set no fewer than 43 personal bests.

The U11 boys finished second only a single point behind Blackpool and Sam Charnley was the U11 ‘Man of the Season’. As well as Sam, six other junior athletes scored points by finishing in the first six – Lewis Graves, Jack Jameson, Bailey Locke, Joshua Richardson, Olivier Brooks and Millie Hall.

The disco is on Friday, March 20, at the Old Blacks on Lammack Road from 7.00 pm until 9pm.
