Radcliffe AC runners had to contend with torrential rain and boggy conditions when they took part in the tough Whittle Pike Fell Race from Cowpe, Rawtenstall.
Donna Cartwright took sixth place among the women in 56.50 – only eight seconds behind the first of Radcliffe’s runners, Peter McNulty. Cartwright’s husband, Mark, ran 59.56, while Sheila McNulty clocked an impressive 1.08:28 to take the over-60 prize.
The event, which covered 4.5 miles and 1,400 feet of climbing, was one of four in a midweek series run by Rossendale Harriers.
Mark Cartwright, getting back to form after injury, was the only runner from Radcliffe to complete the series.
The weather was so bad during the Cowpe race that back runners were struggling to finish before it went dark.
