RADCLIFFE AC runners have recorded a number of successful performances on the fells and trails.
Donna Cartwright was first woman home in the Pilgrim’s Cross fell race and Ben Riddell took fifth place in a good field in the club’s own five-mile event.
Cartwright, back on form after a virus, took her first place in the six-mile race round Holcombe moors.
Seven Radcliffe runners joined the 132-strong field with the first four all within seconds of each other.
Tony Holt led the local contingent home in 50mins 15secs, followed by Dave Bartlett in 50.45, Cartwright in 50.50 and Peter McNulty in 50.55. Cartwright’s husband Mark (V40) clocked 57.46, Anne Marie Rampley (V40) 59.18, and Sheila McNulty took the vet 60 prize in 1.05.13.
Seventy-six runners took part in Radcliffe’s testing multi-terrain course from the Masons Arms in Sion Street.
Riddell ran 27.32, less than a minute behind winner Dave Norman from Altrincham and Distrct AC. Dave Bartlett also took part and clocked 32.20.
The first woman was Susan Lever (V45) from Horwich in 32.46.
On the roads Kevin McGilvray tackled the world’s largest 14k road race in Australia.
McGilvray (V50), holidaying Down Under, ran the Sydney to Bondi Beach event along with 70,000 other competitors. He was 4,544th out of 57,795 finishers in a time of 71mins 49secs.
