Chorley Harrier fell running aces Dominic and Nicola Raby were both in excellent form at Keswick for the Skiddaw Fell Race.

They recorded a substantial improvement on their 2007 times over the nine mile course, which takes on a 2,900ft push to the summit and back.

Dominic ran over five minutes quicker and secured a tenth position in a time of 1.13.39. Nicola was almost seven minutes faster than last year with a fine effort in 1.36.07.

Of the first timers at the race, John Sutton took 21st place in 1.18.19 with Malc Christie 38th in 1.24.17. Road runner Eddie Reynolds is striving to get back to full fitness and made the top fifty with a rare appearance on the fells in 1.28.51. Paul Jackson recorded 1.35.01.

Christie and Jackson were also in action the previous day at the Tockholes Fell Race, near Darwen, with both running well to take 11th and 12th place respectively. Jackson’s time of 40.21 was six minutes better than his effort last year. Lynne Clough also showed fine form with a great run to take the prize for first lady in 42.07, whilst club mate Liz Bright finished seventh lady.

On the roads, two Harriers recorded personal bests in the Chorley Four Mile Night Series at Astley Village. John Sutton claimed a top ten spot with his time of 21.42, whilst Phil Iddon’s impressive season continued with his best time of 23.55 to take 30th place. Eddie Reynolds broke back into racing with a steady effort on Iddon’s shoulder in 23.57, meanwhile Paul Edmondson clocked 24.30, just ahead of Paul Jackson and Steve O’Connor, who pinched eight seconds off his time last month in 24.58. In all, twenty runners from the club were in action. Tom Booth led the junior contingent just ahead of Ciaran Downs, whilst Nikki Rushton was first lady Harrier across the line.

In the recent Astley Park 5k races, Eddie Reynolds was 12th in the senior race in 19.24. Shelley Parkinson was first Vet50 lady for the second time in the series in 27.12. Dan Edwards recorded best time of the summer in 20.33.

Meanwhile 22 juniors from the club took part in the final two races of the junior one mile run. Mark Brown took 4th spot on both occasions, whilst James Shuttleworth ran a course best time of 6.26 to take 14th place in the final race. Under 11 runner Harriet Jackson also notched a course best of 7.05 whilst Imogen Crabtree showed good form as fifth girl overall in 6.45. Three girls from the club won prizes for finishing first in their age category with Bethany Blackwell leading the U9’s, Sally Riley the U12’s and Jessie Scott first U13.
