LAST Thursday, the first Partnership Orienteering Festival of 07/08 took place at Alkincoates Park in Colne.

With the help of Pendle Forest Orienteering Club, 99 Year 8 pupils from all seven Pendle Secondary Schools had an opportunity to experience orienteering for the first time.

The event was a great success and further festivals are planned for both secondary and primary school pupils in 2008.

A number of Pendle secondary and primary schools are planned to be mapped' for the development of orienteering in Pendle in the near future and it is the intention that these schools will encourage others to use their school grounds for orienteering.

The pupils also have the opportunity to participate in Pendle Forest Orienteering Clubs Spring and Autumn Series in 2008. Details can be found on their website www.pfo.org.uk.

Partnership Development Manager Neil Stewart said: "This is a great sport in which anybody can participate regardless of ability and should be an excellent opportunity for pupils in Pendle, particularly by those who are not traditional games players."
