CHORLEY Athletic Club and Triathlon Club members were in action at the ‘Garstang 10k’ Road Race, which was the first race of Chorley’s GP ‘Road/Trail’ Series for 2017.

With ideal race conditions and the chance to burn off some of the Christmas festivities the event tempted 17 Chorley runners to make the short trip ‘Up North’.

480 runners competed in this event with the eventual winner coming in at superb time of 32:43.

First back for Chorley and with a ‘top 10 finish’ in a time of 36:39 was Robert Walsh followed by Neil Adair in a new 10k personal best - 39:07 (31st), Jon Mattock 40:05(43rd) and a new 10k PB.

Stuart Kilmartin 42:52 (92nd) and Paul Wareing 42:58 (93rd) came in the top 100.

They were followed by Adrian Pilkington 44:35 (120th), Mark Bond 45:06 (128th) with Lara Dickinson Chorley’s first lady back 47:44 (164th) also with a new 10k PB, Jane Bowles 48:48 (187th).

Rachael Gibson 49:25 (197th), Simon Townsend 49:27 (199th), John Swift 49:38 (202nd) 1st M75, Mike Wilson 49:56 (204th), Liam Betney 53:48 (272nd), Mark Stevens 53:57 (273rd), Sandra Stevens 54:03 (282nd), Carl ‘the Prince’ Prince 55:36 (320th) rounding up the last of the Chorley runners.

Great route in a fantastic location and it was great to see quite a few personal bests.

Late week, the Citizen reported John Horrocks took on the Worden Park race and completed the course in 38:50 and claimed a top 20 position.

Darren Bowes and Nick Gkikas returned in the top 60, followed closely by Paul Wareing and Mark Bond.

Liam Betney took just over 47mins, Jane Bowles was very happy to beat the 50mins mark just behind Simon Townsend.

The runners will be in action at the Lostock 6 on February 26 - the second event of the ‘Road/Trail’ GP Series.
