MARK Hughes is running the rule over former Celtic winger Didier Agathe.

The 30-year-old, who can play out wide on the right or in a deeper role, was made surplus to requirements at Celtic Park after making just four appearances as a sub for the Bhoys under Gordon Strachan last season.

Agathe, who played in the Celtic side that lost in extra time to Jose Mourinho's Porto in the 2003 UEFA Cup final, arrived at Brockhall on Tuesday in the hope of earning himself a deal at Ewood Park.

He played in both legs against Rovers on the way to the final, a tie that the Scottish champions won 3-0 on aggregate.

Rovers chairman John Williams said: "I can confirm that Didier is training with us.

"He arrived on Tuesday for a trial so that Mark could take a look at him.

"There's no timescale on it and it's up to Mark whether he goes on the first Germany trip or not."

Agathe started his career in France with Montpellier before spells with Raith Rovers, Hibernian and then Celtic, where he made 180 appearances in total, scoring eight goals.

He has already reportedly had trials with AS Roma and Middlesbrough.
