STEVE Johnson will be giving a talk about his work on the Help4Heroes 4x4 Rally on Friday.

The Accrington-based rally driver and organiser helped run last month’s 10-day event, which covered 1,700 miles and retraced the route of the Allied invasion of Europe.

“It was one of the toughest events I’ve been involved with. The days started at 6am and didn’t finish until 11pm,” said Steve, who is a member of Accrington Motorsport Club.

“We would have liked to visit the Accrington Pals Site but the single track road to and from it was not right for 43 4x4 cars to visit in two hours.

“We also travelled up the road to Nijmegen bridge then onto Arnhem.

“This was the route my father, Vernon, took in 1944 when he was part of the Guards Armoured Division in Operation Market Garden.”

The event has raised over £100,000 for H4H and anyone can donate online at www.justgiving.com/h4hrally2010-Stephen-Johnson Friday evening’s talk starts at 7.30 at Trinity Community Church, Christ Church Square, Accrington, and Johnson is hoping to have one of the 4x4 vehicles on show. Everyone welcome.
