ACCRINGTON Stanley have agreed a deal to sign a goalkeeper from a Championship club.
John Coleman is reluctant to name the keeper because the player has yet to put pen to paper, but it is understood the stopper in question has collected some international experience at some stage in his career.
Coleman, who is currently away taking his UEFA Pro Licence qualification, said: “We’ve agreed to sign a keeper.
“He’s been with a Championship club and is out of contract.”
Stanley had made a goalkeeper one of their main priorities this summer and the news of the deal comes just days after the Reds missed out in their bid to bring former keeper Kenny Arthur back to the club.
The 31-year-old Scot left Stanley for Rochdale last summer because of concerns over the club’s financial situation, and had been in talks about a return after being transfer listed by Dale.
But Arthur instead decided to drop down a division to join Blue Square Premier side Grimsby, saying: “Whenever I came across to play against Grimsby I thought the atmosphere inside the stadium was really good.
“That was a big factor for me.”
