BLACKBURN-born striker Brett Ormerod hit the £90million goal to fire Blackpool into the Barclays Premier League after a 3-2 win over Cardiff City at Wembley this afternoon.

The unfashionable Seasiders, who were in the bottom division just nine years ago, will provide a Red Rose derby for Rovers after the thrilling Coca-Cola Championship final.

Cardiff, bidding to become the first Welsh side in the Premier League, led twice through Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley but they were pegged back by Charlie Adam and Gary Taylor-Fletcher before veteran frontman Ormerod, who made his name at Accrington Stanley after being released as a youngster by Blackburn, cracked the winner in first-half stoppage time.

Blackpool - whose average home crowd of 8,611 was the second-lowest in the Championship this season - will be the smallest club in the top flight since the formation of the Premier League.
