THE Lancashire League Twenty20 competition exploded into life last night - and Haslingden felt the full force of a shockwave at Edenfield.

The unbeaten league leaders plundered their way to 204-6 from their 20 overs at Gincroft Lane.

Chris Read top scored with 39, professional Phil Hayes hit 35 and Alex Coleman made 33 as Asim Bhatti suffered with the ball, his one over going for 27.

But Edenfield stepped up to the plate as they replied and Raheel Majeed and Greg Smithson shared a 116 opening stand.

Majeed made 82 and Smithson 45 but as wickets tumbled it seemed Haslingden would win through.

But Bhatti made up for his bowling nightmare with 30 to steer his side home as 13 came from the first five balls of the final over.
