JIMMY Anderson will look to fire Lancashire to the perfect start to their County Championship campaign today – and won’t even think about England duty until the end of the season curtain raiser.

The Burnley pace ace, an absentee from England’s winter tour to Bangladesh with a knee injury, made his cricketing comeback last week in the Red Rose friendly with Durham.

And now he will take to Old Trafford determined to shine on what will be a star studded stage.

Warwickshire’s England men Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott play for the Bears, before, like Anderson, heading off to the ICC World Twenty20, and the rare presence of three England stars in a county game should be an attraction.

“I am looking forward to it,” said Anderson. “I enjoyed my bowl against Durham last week and feel fit.

“I didn’t get any wickets but I was happy with my third spell in particular when I bowled well and I enjoyed that.

“Yes, I was a bit stiff after the game but you expect that after three spells and I will be looking to step up again this week.

“It’s a big game for Lancashire and as a Lancashire lad I know the importance of the County Championship.

“I don’t expect to be around all season because of England but when available I want to do my bit.

“And if I can help to get Lancashire off to the perfect start then even better.”

Specialists haven’t got to the bottom of Anderson’s injury and he added: “It feels fine now and that’s the main thing.”

Play starts at Old Trafford today at 11am.
