STEVEN Reid is set to be offered a Premier League lifeline by West Bromwich Albion – and more could follow him out of the Ewood Park exit door in a bid to strengthen Blackburn Rovers’ striker search.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to be offered a contract at the newly promoted Baggies, after helping them out of the Championship during a loan spell, with his current Ewood Park deal expiring this summer.

While Rovers have yet to make their mind up on Reid’s future, his chances of being offered a permanent contract extension appear unlikely after injuries have severely restricted his influence over the last few years.

Reid has made seven appearances during West Brom’s run-in and is understood to be keen on making the move to the Midlands permanent as he bids to kick start his injury-plagued career.

The 29-year-old will probably not be the only Rover to quit Ewood Park this summer either, with boss Sam Allardyce looking to strike the right balance between having a competitive squad and having the finances to boost the club’s firepower.

The Rovers boss does not have to sell this summer, and will not allow any player to leave to weaken the squad, but could be tempted to offload a couple of his fringe players to free up some funds for a proven goalscorer.

The emergence of Martin Olsson, Phil Jones and Steven Nzonzi this season has enhanced Allardyce’s options and, with big things expected of fellow youngster Amine Linganzi next season, could pave the way for a couple of senior exits over the coming months.

With Frank Fielding expected to be Rovers’ third choice goalkeeper next campaign, one of Jason Brown or Mark Bunn will be looking to leave this summer, while Zurab Khizanishvili should also move on to pastures new.

Chelsea loanee Franco Di Santo is expected to return to Stamford Bridge and, with the exciting crop of youngsters breaking into the first team, one or two more of the club’s senior players on the fringes of things could be available for sale.

While Morten Gamst Pedersen’s contract saga continues, Allardyce will be looking at potential midfield replacements but his priority this summer is to add more potency to Rovers’ attack.

A strong finale to the season will provide valuable prize money in his transfer kitty. along with the sum received for Benni McCarthy from West Ham, but, with a shortage of strikers available at the right price, freeing up their wage bill would bolster the club’s options.
