"THIS is what we've worked for!" That was the reaction of Accrington Stanley chairman Eric Whalley after the official release of the new season's fixtures.
The Reds have been handed a trip to Chester City for their first game back in the Football League after a 44-year absence, while other destinations include newly relegated Swindon Town and Walsall.
"I'm happy with the fixtures. But, to be honest, I'm happy just to be there," said Whalley.
"Reality is setting in now. Seeing the fixtures makes you realise how far we've come.
"And the Carling Cup draw is absolutely brilliant.
"We were all getting excited about the fixtures, and then we get drawn against European Cup winners the day before."
Sky Sports have confirmed they will show their first round game at home to Nottingham Forest live on Monday 21 August, kick-off 7.45pm.
