CLARETS' new signing Steve Jones said it was the influence of manager Steve Cotterill that persuaded him to make the switch to Turf Moor.

Jones, who is set to sign a three-year deal after rejecting a new contract at Crewe, said he was impressed what the Clarets chief had done in his tenure at the club.

But, more importantly, it is what he believes could lie ahead in the future that made him decide on a move to Burnley.

He said: "Everyone knew I was out of contract at Crewe in the summer and a few clubs approached me, but as soon as I spoke to Steve Cotterill that was it.

"He sold the club to me and told me what he wanted from me and the players he is looking to bring in.

"Obviously he is hopeful for the future and I think we can do good things. I want to establish myself here now and I can't wait to get going."

"Crewe offered me a four year extension in November, but to be honest I wanted a fresh challenge and I am delighted to come to such a big club.

"There are challenges to be met here. When you look at the players Steve has brought in and the stadium and the fan base here, everything is in place."

And the Northern Ireland international says he's sure he can hit it off with Clarets hitman Andy gray to form a dynamic strike partnership.

He added: "Id like to think I'm a guy who can bring a lot of pace and goals to the team. I've been playing mostly on the wing last year and done quite well, but I've been missing a Dean Ashton type partner at Crewe and hopefully Andy Gray can be something like that.

"He is similar to Dean (Ashton) in that he is a big lad who holds the ball up well and flicks it on, so hopefully that is something I can capitalise on."

But Turf Moor hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Jones in the past and he's hoping that is set to chance."

"I have played at Turf Moor quite a few times and lost every time, so playing against Burnley doesn't hold fond memories for me," he said.

"Hopefully it will different playing for the club!"
