THE anxious wait will soon be over for Accrington Stanley's out-of-contract stars.

The Conference champions were due to meet for their final training session of the season this morning, with manager John Coleman expected to have mixed news to deliver to players whose deals are up for renewal.

Goalkeeper Danny Alcock and midfielder Steve Jagielka see their contracts run out in the summer, while short-term deals expire for Michael Welch and Leam Richardson now the season has come to a close.

Defenders Welch and Richardson, who joined the Reds in the summer and had their terms extended after Christmas, have played in the Football League, with Welch arriving from Macclesfield and Richardson having played for Bolton and Blackpool after emerging through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers.

It is possible that, because of their experience and their prominence in the starting line-up this season, that they will be offered terms.

But teenage full back Danny Ventre admits it has been an anxious wait for the players since they won the league at Woking almost three weeks ago.

"Nothing has been said before because we've still been in party mode," said the 19-year-old, who could have a 12-month extension option exercised.

"It's been a strange feeling because you are waiting to find out what will happen to you.

"I want to stay as long as I can and I want to play more games.

"But we'll have to see what happens."
