THIS is the Burnley FC supporter suspected of a ferocious attack which left a man fighting for his life.

Police released a CCTV still of the man they want to question about the attack which happened after the club's 2-1 defeat against Ipswich in February.

An Ipswich fan was beaten up at a train station by two men and left with brain injuries and a fractured skull.

Sergeant Bob Munn, of British Transport Police, said today: "This was a very nasty ferocious, unprovoked attack and these cowardly yobs must be caught."

The attack took place at around 6.40pm on Saturday, February 11, between platforms one and two of Ipswich railway station after the match at Portman Road.

Police said two men were beaten to the ground by two other men.

Following the attack, the offenders made their getaway by jumping a gate at the end of the platform, before heading off towards the town centre.

One of the victims, a 37-year-old from Felixstowe required emergency treatment and was left fighting for his life. He has since recovered.

Detectives believe the attackerswere Burnley fans about to head back to Lancashire.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and bailed until June 5.

British Transport police trawled the railway station's CCTV footage and identified another man they would like to question.

They have released the CCTV still today in a bid for the public's help.

Football hooligan spotters from Burnley police have seen the picture but do not recognise him.

Detective Constable Alan Reed said: "This was a serious, unprovoked attack. We would appeal for anyone who recognises this man to contact us straight away.

"He is believed to be a Burnley supporter wanted for grievous bodily harm following a serious assault on a male resulting in brain injuries.

"It is known from CCTV that he attended the match at Portman Road in company of another male.

"We think this man is from the Burnley area because he was seen on CCTV at the football ground standing with the away supporters and cheering on the team.

"If anyone knows this man or has any idea who or where he may be they should get in touch with us."

The men were said to have been in their late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
