BOLTON boss Sam Allardyce is believed to be considering offering Matt Jansen the chance to resurrect his career at The Reebok Stadium.

As I understand it, the Wanderers chief could be ready to take a chance on the 28-year-old if, as expected, he is released from his contract with Rovers following a meeting between his adviser and the club tomorrow.

Jansen has made it clear he wants to quit after growing frustrated at his recent lack of first team opportunities and Rovers are ready to bow to that request, even if that leaves the former Crystal Palace star free to join a Premiership rival.

Everton manager David Moyes is also thought to be monitoring Jansen's situation with interest, but Allardyce could yet emerge as the leading contender for his signature, particularly as he's about to lose several players because of the African Nations Cup.

Referring to Jansen's situation, Rovers boss Mark Hughes said last night: "We've got a meeting with Matt and his advisers on Wednesday and I think a decision will be made then.

"Obviously, we've always tried to do what is best for Matt and if he feels it's time for him to move on then we will look at that situation.

"But we'll have the meeting and see what happens."

If Jansen ends up leaving then Hughes may dip into the transfer market during the January window to plug the gap that would leave in his squad.

"We'll have a look at it," added the Rovers boss.

"There may be opportunities to bring someone in but we've got cover, to some extent, because David Bentley can be a fourth striker if and when needed so there isn't a great urgency to address that."
