ACCRINGTON Stanley’s 2008/09 player of the season Jimmy Ryan says he will not mind if others take the glory in the final weeks of the current campaign - as long as the Reds make the play-offs.

Ryan was the star of last season with 10 goals from midfield, which earned him a new two-year deal at the club.

The 21-year-old, with only four goals to his name so far this season after being hampered by injury early in the campaign, has seen strikers Bobby Grant and Michael Symes take the limelight during 2009/10 but has no complaints.

“I don’t go out there to try to steal the show,” said Ryan.

“I obviously try to do as well as I can and try to come off the pitch being happy with my performance. If other people recognise that, that’s great.

“But I’m playing for the team. I’m not just playing for myself to get recognition.

“If it means other lads taking the limelight from time to time, that’s the main thing, I just want the team to do well.

“Granty and Symesy have done great getting the goals this year.

"Hopefully they can keep going and they can fire us into the play-offs.”
