England coach Fabio Capello has given the clearest indication that Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson won’t be included in his World Cup squad.

The debate over England’s goalkeeping situation has raged over the past 12 months, with Robert Green, David James and Joe Hart all struggling to make the position their own.

However, that particular threesome are likely to be the trio included in the Three Lions party heading to South Africa this summer.

Talking about his goalkeeping options, Capello failed to mention Robinson, nor fellow hopeful Ben Foster.

“I’m fairly happy,” said the Italian. “We’ve got Robert Green, David James who is older and experienced and Joe Hart who is young.

“So I don’t think we have a problem when it comes to goalkeepers.”

It will come as a major blow to Robinson who has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League this season and had hoped to force his way back into Capello’s World Cup plans.

The former Leeds and Tottenham shotstopper, with 41 international caps to his name, is currently out injured with a calf injury but could make a comeback before the end of the season.
