YILDIRAY Basturk has put himself in contention for a place in Blackburn Rovers' squad for Wednesday's visit of Hull City after an impressive 45 minute reserve team cameo at Fleetwood.
The Turkish midfielder showed he still had the old magic, which helped his country to third place in the World Cup in 2002, and comfortably dealt with the fitness side of the game.
Basturk played the opening 45 minutes, before being withdrawn at half time, to suggest he could be in Sam Allardyce's plans for Wednesday night.
Junior Hoilett squandered golden chances to break the deadlock in each half, before seeing a well-hit 20-yard strike tipped over by the Fleetwood goalkeeper on the hour mark.
Nick Blackman drilled a shot wide after a good through-ball from Aaron Doran on 70 minutes, before Doran finally opened the scoring with a powerful 20 yard strike two minutes later.
Lars Jacobsen played the first 65 minutes on his return from injury, while Vince Grella played 75 minutes as he continued his latest comeback bid.
