A RARE football programme for an England international played at Ewood Park has been sold for £2,800 at an auction in London.
The four-page programme for the England versus Wales match played in Blackburn on March 3, 1924, cost just one penny new.
Before this week’s auction it had been expected to sell for between £1,500 and £2,000.
It was bought by a bidder who preferred to remain anonymous.
The front cover of the historical programme is emblazoned with the words 'Blackburn Rovers' and features an advertisement for a gentlemen's outfitters, John Forbes, whose address is given as 9-11 Victoria Street, Blackburn.
Wales beat England 2-1 in that Blackburn match watched by a crowd of 30,000.
They were boosted by the inclusion of Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper, Ronnie Sewell, who was making his first and also his last appearance for England.
At the same auction an 1881-1882 Lancashire Cup Final runners-up medal presented to Accrington FC star, William Eastham, failed to reach its reserve price.
The medal had been expected to draw bids of between £400 and £500.
