ACCRINGTON Stanley believe John Mullin can shake off injury problems and complete another season of league football.

The former Burnley midfielder joined Stanley last summer and automatically earned a one-year extension to his deal after making a total of 35 appearances during the season.

Mullin suffered from ankle problems in the latter stages of the campaign and said he would assess his fitness during pre-season to confirm that he will play on.

But Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell is confident the 33-year-old is capable of giving the club another good year.

Bell said: “John’s a true gent.

“If he feels he’s not up to it, he’ll walk away and go and do something else.

“But he played more games than I expected last season. I think he played around 30 league games, even though he’d had injuries in the last two or three years, so I’m optimistic we can get another good 12 months out of him.”
