PAUL Ince admits he was ‘devastated’ to see former Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane resign as Sunderland boss.

But the under-fire Blackburn Rovers manager insists he won’t be driven out of his own job in the face of mounting criticism from sections of the media and some Rovers supporters.

In a heated press conference at the club’s Brockhall training ground yesterday, Ince confronted suggestions that he may be next in line to follow Keane out of a Premier League job.

The Irishman quit as the Black Cats manager on Thursday after seeing his side lose five of their last six and slipping to 18th in the Premier League.

Ince’s position would seem similarly delicate, with Rovers a further one place behind Sunderland following a run of nine league matches without a win.

However, the 41-year-old believes he still has the backing of the fans and insists any attempts to dislodge him from the Rovers hot-seat are mainly media-driven.

And he is convinced that the Premier League’s younger managers are the ones targeted most - highlighted by Keane’s abrupt exit at the Stadium of Light.
