QEGS can count on home comforts as they continue their march in the Independent Schools FA Cup.

Having beaten Forest School from Snaresbrook 2-0 in the third round, the Blackburn school have been drawn at home in the quarter finals to Manchester Grammar School.

QEGS, who have won the cup a record three times, have now been drawn at home in each round of this year’s competition.

And their Lammack ground is proving to be something of a fortress, although they had to work hard to break down the well organised East London side.

The first half ended goalless with neither side able to make many clear-cut chances, Morgan Lewis probably going closest for the home side with a turn and a shot that was touched wide by Forest ‘keeper Harrington.

Forest started in lively fashion after half-time and it was a little against the run of play when midfielder Alex Brees split the visitors' defence with a fine through pass to Lewis, who slipped the ball home past the on-rushing goalkeeper.

QEGS remained solid at the back, with Jordan Clarke showing good handling in goal and Tom Bamford, returning after a spell out of the team due to injury, commanding in the centre of the back four. Clarke had to go full-length to turn away a deflected free-kick, but that was about as close as Forest came to scoring and QEGS sealed their win when good work by Sam Turnock on the left opened up the Londoners for Lewis to fire home his second goal.

QEGS will host Manchester Grammar School on Tuesday, December 2.
