ROQUE Santa Cruz will miss Paraguay’s World Cup qualifying double header after picking up a hamstring injury in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

The Blackburn Rovers striker limped off 49 minutes into the Ewood Park clash and has been deemed unfit to travel for his nations games against Columbia and Peru in the next 10 days.

Rovers had feared the striker would be forced to travel regardless of his injury but, after talks between the medical staff and Paraguay, he was given permission to remain in England.

Rovers chairman John Williams said: “It is a deja-vu really.

"He was injured after the West Ham game earlier this season but was made to travel anyway.

“It is a crazy situation where they can insist he goes away just so they can assess him themselves.

“This time it looks as though everyone has seen sense and he will stay with us.”

'Roque Santa Cruz is keen to leave Blackburn and accept an offer to join his former Rovers boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City in January. City could pay up to four times the £4.5m Rovers paid Bayern Munich for the Paraguay striker in the summer of 2007. (The Guardian' From BBC website. - Up to 18m - Not enough! How could we replace him for that? Also 'Blackburn have taken Egyptian right-winger Ahmed Al-Mohammadi on trial from ENPPI with a view to signing him in January. (Daily Mirror)' At least we are looking at right wing now.
