GREAT Harwood’s 108-year wait to be crowned Ribblesdale Senior League champions could come to an end tomorrow as they take on Padiham at The Arbories.
The Cliffe outfit lead the table by 14 points and a win over the second-placed side would give them in unassailable lead at the top of table.
But a defeat would still leave Harwood’s destiny in their own hands with two fixtures remaining – with Barnoldswick at home on Sunday and an away game at current champions Blackburn Northern on the final day of the season.
The side’s have traded wins so far this season with Padiham winning their epic Ramsbotton Cup clash in May – with Andy Robinson’s side eventually going on to win the competition – before Allan Armer’s side put the record straight in the league a month later.
But after the heavy rain that’s fallen in the past few weeks, it could be Mother Nature who has the final say over the destination of the title.
Baxenden, who were thumped by Harwood last weekend after being skittled for just 37 chasing a modest 124, still have a mathematical chance of winning the title and face Read at Back Lane tomorrow before facing Padiham on Sunday – with a win potentially handing the title to their rivals Harwood.
