ROVERS boss Paul Ince made his sixth summer signing after MK Dons skipper Keith Andrews joined his old boss at Ewood Park.

The 27-year-old, who helped Ince’s Dons to Johnstone’s Paints Trophy and League Two glory last season, has signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee and goes into the squad to face West Ham on Saturday.

He joins Carlos Villanueva, Paul Robinson, Danny Simpson, Julio Cruz and Vince Grella at Ewood.

And chairman John Williams said he was delighted to have finally closed the deal.

He said: “Keith was someone who Paul identified from the first day he took the job.

“If Paul knows anything from his own career it’s midfield players.

"He captained his country playing in that position and he was always keen to bring Keith here if we could do the right deal and, thankfully, we have.”

Andrews had been left out of Roberto Di Matteo’s last three MK Dons’ squads as speculation intensified about his future.

Di Matteo said: “He (Andrews) is going to be a big loss for this club, he has been fantastic here at MK and it is a bit of a shame.

"But it is the player’s wish and dream and we wish him good luck.

“He has done well, but not only him I think the whole team did extraordinarily well last season. Football is a team sport, not an individual sport and I guess we’ll survive without Andrews.”

This maybe isn't the big big signing we had all hoped for but i think it could be a shrewd move by Ince.... Lets not get on his case about it remember we all backed Hughes when he pulled someone nobody knew from somewhere in Europe.
Giving the players from the lower leagues the chance to develop and grow seems a good idea to me... all we need now is 1 big right sided midfielder to compliment those already in... hopefully Milner - but i can't see him coming !!

Agreed Steve, this one like the Fowler deal is baffling to say the least. He hardly set the world alight at Wolves, doubt he's improved to top 6 Prem level by playing in league 2. And certainly now we've signed Villanueva & Grella plus Dunny, Gamst etc when's he gonna get a kick? We DESPERATLEY require a right winger. Incey, PLEASE get us one. Offload McCarthy & sign Juoaquin and a quality striker

Predictable that this would bring out the happy brigade. Stop whining until you've seen the lad play. He is only 27 - prime of his career - and was player of the year in league 2 last year. Pretty sure Ince knows more about him and more about midfielders in general than anyone posting to these pages, so let's trust his judgement. From what I've seen, he hasn't done badly for us so far.

And for those of you still wanting a right winger, apparently we have made a bid for 27 year old Espanyol player Valmiro Lopes Rocha -more commonly known as Valdo. He's spanish, so he must be good ;)

I can understand a number of points posted earlier. Yes Hughes signed some unknowns and yes we should give the lad a chance. However, I dont see where he fits into Incy's plans and I wonder at 27 and in league 2/1 wouldn't you have thought that he had missed the boat for his shot at the Prem? I'll keep an open mind for sure but i dont get it?!

I've not ceommented on here before so thought now was the time. Last season we were always lacking the centre of midfield. Dunny cannot stay fit for the full season. Tugay is a legend but only does 20 mins. Emo best on right side. Vogel ince doesnt rate him. Ried again might not manage a full season. I personally think this is a good move. Even if he only scores 1 goal that would still make him better value for money than grabbi and davies. Can we not just support ince, 3 games 2 wins and a draw. what more do people really want. We aint real madrid

No coincidence that Ince has completed this deal with only 4 days to go to the end of the transfer window. Had this happened three weeks ago (when first mooted) the training ground would have been empty now.

Still, Ince played at a two of the biggest clubs in European football and, being a midfielder too, maybe he's seen something special about this fella that the entire Premier League and Championship clubs missed...perhaps.

9:22pm Thu 28 Aug 08

OMG! Trying desperately to keep an open mind on this... the kid's won the lottery coming here so its fair to assume he'll be head over heels to impress but effort counts for feck all in the Prem. U need class to make an impact. Fair dues, we've yet to see him play but can U honestly see this guy being an improvement on our 1st XI?

I can only think someone's on their way out - maybe the Axe to Stoke? But this does cry of more ridicule than Sven taking Walcott to the World Cup!

I wish him luck as he's under a $hit load of pressure to win us all over but at £500k, I suppose that's a safe gamble.

i couldn't care less about andrews. im more worried about us signing a quality right winger than worrying about andrews. if andrews is good then fair enough if hes not then its not end of the worls as hes only cost 500k. us fans should be more worried about a quality winger joining us

does anybody remember jon stead we paid 1.5 million for hiom from league2 huddersfeild and he scored the goals that kept us afloat that season, and will probably always enjoy legend status at ewood, colin hendry wasnt even contracted to a club in sotland when mckay signed him and again it was a success.all im saying is give him a chance if hes **** then ave a go at ince but until such tine comes lets concentrate on giving incy and the lads our support.

Andrews may not be better than the current first XI, "can U honestly see this guy being an improvement on our 1st XI?" (mxrs6mas) and we have not lashed out mega-bucks as if he were. We do need players who can step in and fill a gap when required. Whether he can do that at this level, in this squad, with this manager, in the role he is given, we shall have to wait and see.

I too would be happier when we do sign a right sided attacking player to give us more options, because we have been too predictable too often at home, and we do need more options.

Hmmmm. Sorry to say this, but this post, like so many others, really comes across as pretty naive. Yes, Villenueva looks quite good on YouTube and he reportedly played well against Grimsby, but remember that he is still not proven. He obviously has potential, but he is a little lad and is very likely not going to set the Premiership alight like so many of you think he will. I don't understand how all this massive hype of him started. Don't get me wrong, he excites me because he could be a good'un, but I am reserving judgement until at least Christmas and certainly not getting my hopes up too much. Andrews is another puzzling one. He could do a great job. It is doubtful he has been brought in to start, but he himself admits that he wasted a few of his professional years and that he has turned his career around. He may surpise us all, he might not. It's not so much of a risk after all, at only 500,000 quid. I hope everyone gets behind the lad now, he has just got a dream move to the Premiership and I sincerely hope that the circumstances under which he has been brought in do not affect the fans taking to him as we should any signing. If people expect you to do badly and get on your back at everything you do wrong, more times than not it ends up being a self-fulfilling prophecy. This transfer window has been odd. The transfer targets who have received most attention are those probably least deserving of attention. We bring in England's No. 1 keeper of a few years and a good, battling Aussie with great experience who plays in exactly the position we need, yet all the talk - no hysteria - is for this Pineapple Head who none of us have ever seen play and some guy who the manager knows well who would be brought in cheaply to play a bit part, squad-strengthening role. All talk should now be of the right-winger, because that is now a necessity. Good luck Andrews.

martin.cat, Walton-le-Dale says...
6:37am Fri 29 Aug 08

Can't believe people are having a go before they see what hes got to offer. Fair enough if you've seen him play.

All i will say is Jon Stead came from the lower leagues the guy kept us up without him where would we be now? fair enough his form then dipped but we had had our money 10 times over for him.

Best keep an open mind for me he wont be going straight in the starting 11 but he will give us depth and options

Remember all our youngs lads coming through play somewhere with all the foriegners in the prem that is more than likely to be in the lower leagues

DarkSideOfTheDave, Navenby, Lincolnshire says...
7:25am Fri 29 Aug 08

mwgr2... firstly, I agree completely that we need a decent right winger.
My main point, which, if you read back through some recent article comments, is that Ince has been in the game a long time at a high level and that I'm a bit cheesed off at all the nay-saying and criticism going on. I'm simply trying to urge a little faith in the manager and on this occasion I'm using the case of the one guy we've signed who came on and made an immediate dramatic impact, which at the end of the day is what will please the majority of fans to see from a new signing. YES, it was against Grimsby and YES, he's not well known, but he WAS recently named Chilean footballer of the year AND he played very well for us despite not being fully fit.

Yes, I'm sure Grella is great, too. Robinson, on the other hand.. hmmm.. there's another thing. I hope he improves because he's already showing the tell-tale signs that saw him lose his number one spot for England and then Spurs, BUT I'm behind him 100%. Frankly, to suggest that his addition to the squad warrants "hysteria" is a pretty bold statement to make, especially having just branded the majority of Blackburn fans naïve.

Food for thought: Wayne Rooney is the number one choice striker for England, and he is terrible.

Quite why you're more excited about an inconsistent keeper and some Aussie who most of us have never heard of (granted, except from Nelsen's praise of him) who NEVER scores any goals ( http://en.wikipedia.
org/wiki/Vince_Grell
a ) than about a young, flexible, promising new talent with plenty of flair who has just been voted his country's best player and SCORES GOALS (50 in 125 games for Audax Italiano) from his first outing when not even fit, makes me a little bit sad.

I can't wait to see what Grella does for the team, but then Grella doesn't have videos on YouTube comparing him to Ronaldinho. Carlos is the kind of signing that brings excitement to the club and shows creativity and diversity, not more of the same.

Back to the original topic of this article. Andrews does seem like a strange choice of signing, but it is undeniable that Ince has seen this guy day-in day-out for a long time and if he sees a niche for him, excellent, let's wait and see how he does.

Yes, Jon Stead kept us up...but we aren't fighting off relegation - WE'RE A TOP TEN TEAM.

Colin Hendry came to us from a Scottish Premier team whilst we were a division lower, hardly Blackburn Combination to Serie A!

My final question to ask on this - why do we need to gamble on the likes of Fowler and Andrews?? We have money in the bank, granted not limitless funds, but money none the less.

I like most here was not exactly massively excited at the prospect of signing Andrews especially when the 3million pounds figure was mooted! But we have signed him for 500k which in footballing terms is pocket money.

The fact of the matter is our midfield is utterly threadbare and we always look so light there. Ince providing real competition for places. Andrews will struggle to make the bench unless we have injuries/suspensions
. If we sign a right winger before the deadline close then I will be quietly confident that we can have a really good season. Ince has addressed our shambolic central midfield something Hughes never ever did.

All the rovers fans might be suprised.
But if you look at mkdons formation he played 4-2-2-2 .
4 defenders(2 wing backs 2centre)
2 holding mindfielders (andrews grella)
2 attacking midfielders
2 strikers
the holding player just sit in the middle leting the wing backs and wingers attack.
so he might be a shoe in for the first team not a squad player.

You lot on here probably dont go to ewood often, never mind watch all MK dons training sessions for the last year, which is what ince has done. would you all rather we go out and spend 7-8 mil on a player like grabbi and Davies, who were useless or half mil on someone obviously ince knows. he was his captain, so he knows him.
