ROBBIE Fowler is continuing to mull over the offer of a pay-as-you-play deal at Blackburn Rovers.

The former England international has been training with Rovers since pre-season after recovering from a hip injury which limited his appearances with Cardiff City last season.

Ince believes the ex-Liverpool and Manchester City striker, 33, still has something to offer at the highest level if Fowler is happy to accept the terms on offer.

Fowler mulling over deal?!?!? He should feel privileged that a Premier club wants him. If it's that hard a decision I'm sure there must be a club in a LOWER division happy to give him a more stable contract. He's taking the Pi#$!!!!

Haha, this spells the end of his audacious dream of making it in the Prem with Rovers. Now kindly feck-off turd boy...
Anyone that reckons he'd be a good mentor to the young'uns forget we already have JR, BM & RSC to learn from. Its no surprise Fowler was the one striker who didn't score for us in pre-season. Given the ease that Darren Bent scored in pre season, only to be found out in the Prem just goes to show Fowler is best off in the MLS where he can join the "legendary" Darrrrrrren Huckerrrrrrrrby!

Fowler scored a pen in a closed doors game (against Blackpool I think).

I don't think this is a bad move from Rovers in all honesty. The offer on the table is obviously in Rovers favour if Fowler is not jumping at it. It's dependent on him first playing and then presumably better if he does well.

In which case Rovers can't really lose.

If he is properly incentivised in terms of a pay as you play deal, we will see whether he is motivated enough to get fit/keep fit and earn his wages rather than just turning up to warm the bench sitting next to his mate for one last pay day.

If he gets paid, it must be because he is worth his place in the side and doing better than the other forwards and therefore contributing to the club.

It may be that he doesnt earn a bean as he can no longer cut it in the Premiership, in which case we have lost nothing. But at 33 and hardly any games played in the past 5 years he may have a couple of decent seasons in him and with the quality he undoubtedly had (maybe still has) he is certainly worth a chance - it isnt even a gamble as we cant lose.

Let's hope he signs at 33 he must still have something to offer, it's win win for rovers.

Which is what i said yesterday! But if he is thinking about turning his nose up at a deal, when we are obviously the only team willing to give him a deal at this standard. He deserves all he gets... Like i said. Jog on Fowler!

Why would we want another striker ??? maybe try your luck down at eastlands robbie,i think hughsey would welcome you with open arms

Precisely Lee0r, he will deserve all he gets as he will only be rewarded for success. Fowler has made more than enough money outside of the game, as he owns and rents out half the terraced houses in Liverpool.

Maybe he has realised that he has accomplished nothing in a footballing sense and prehaps tarnished his previous reputation. He may consider this to be his one last shot at leaving a decent legacy and proving himself a Premiership legend.

Alternatively he may not take the deal and wrap up and live happily ever after as a landlord - it is all down to his desire, which obviously only he knows whether he has it or not.

I missed out "in the past 5 years" as to what he has accomplished in a footballing sense - before the Scousers start getting their shell suits in a twist.

If he has to take this long, and think this hard then i think his mind is truely made up allready! Most people would jump at a chance like this. I think he knows in his heart of hearts that he cant cut it with the big boys!

However, he may be pondering the contract because he feels he is better than what we are offering him. News for you fat lad, your over weight, past it and should take what you get. But i cant say ill be upset if he declines! Super Jason Roberts!

Has anyone thought that maybe he's stalling because of the abuse he's been getting from some of the people on these message boards?

Financially he doesn't need to play, he's only doing it because he loves football and wants one last crack at the Premier League. But if he thinks even the fans of the team he plays for aren't going to give him a fair crack, then maybe he's having second thoughts.

The fact is he has scored a lot of Prem goals and, at 33, is still at an age where he can be effective. No, he isn't going to get 20 or 30 goals, or run and harrass defenders for 90 mins, but he knows where to be when the ball is up the other end and when he gets it, he is one of the best at putting it away.

I would sign him up for 6 months - if it works, great, if it doesn't, we've lost little.

I'm with oyu on this one. Strikes me as similar to when Hughes signed Youri Djorkaeff. He was in a similar situation career wise. In the end it didn't work out but didn't cost us anything to try it out and we sacked him off at Christmas. If Fowler scores then he's a good signing and if he doesn't he'll be gone before he causes any damage. The only thing I don't get is why we need another striker anyway, whether it's Fowler, Zigic or anyone else when we've got 4 top class strikers anyway. Surely rather than being a mentor he's going to lessen the first team opportunities for the likes of Derbyshire if he plays.

I am sick of hearing people state that Fowler isn't costing anything(wages!) and he has scored loads of Premiership goals ( shearer and Cole did). The fact is that we should be looking for the new young Robbie Fowler and giving young players the opportunity to come through not hope that an old timer can revitalise himself to get on the score sheet now and again.I seriously worry about Paul Ince's naiviety in his transfer dealings, maybe it would be advisable to appoint a Director of Football to look at the transfer situation rather than let Ince continue to look at lower league and geriatric players.
