BLACKBURN Rovers striker Maceo Rigters has moved to Barnsley on a season-long loan in a bid to revive his career.
The 24-year-old Dutchman joined Rovers from NAC Breda last July after landing the golden boot in the European U21 Championships.
However, he failed to make the grade in his first season at Ewood Park, making only one appearance in the FA Cup and two substitute stints in the Premier League, before going out on loan to Norwich.
Rigters’ time with the Canaries was equally disappointing, tasting just two Championship games before seeing his time at Carrow Road cut short by injury.
Injury has also blighted Rigters this pre-season when, as a substitute in the 2-1 friendly victory over Macclesfield Town, he picked up a hamstring strain.
He returned to action earlier this week for the reserves and scored a brace in their 4-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic.
But despite trying to land another chance at Rovers, manager Ince believes the Dutchman is best served tasting a season’s worth of first-team football at Oakwell.
