ROQUE Santa Cruz faces a race against time to be fit for Blackburn Rovers’ Premier League opener against Everton next Saturday.
The Paraguayan striker suffered an Achilles injury during last weekend’s 4-2 friendly defeat at Wolves, limping off the Molineux pitch after scoring his side’s second goal.
After five days of physiotherapy, the 26-year-old has managed no more than light jogging at the club’s Brockhall training ground, and his left Achilles is still heavily bruised.
He is now a certain non-starter in tomorrow’s final pre-season friendly against Dutch outfit NAC Breda at Ewood Park.
However, Rovers boss Paul Ince will hope his star striker resumes full training next week ahead of their league opener at Goodison Park on August 16.
