CLARETS boss Owen Coyle admits he can’t wait to show off his new side for the first time to the Burnley faithful this afternoon.

And he believes the recently reconstructed Turf Moor pitch will provide an ideal stage for his troops to showcase their talents.

Burnley bring their pre-season campaign to a close this afternoon when Craig Brew-ster’s Inverness Caledonian Thistle side visit East Lancashire.

And, after tours to America and Scotland, and trips to Accrington, Glentoran and Bradford, it will be the first outing on the new surface after three sections were dug out and new drainage inserted.

The whole pitch has been re-seeded and Coyle admitted he couldn’t wait to get started against the Scottish Premier League outfit.

He said: “We’re all desperate to get back on to the Turf and get going.

“The pitch is looking magnificent.

“It looks like a bowling green at this stage and long may that continue.

“We purposely played all our matches away from home because a new pitch was put down we wanted to give that a chance to bed in because we want a surface conducive to passing football, and hopefully at Turf Moor we’ll do that justice.”

It’s the first time new signings Martin Paterson, Kevin McDonald, Christian Kalvenes, Remco van der Schaff, Diego Penny and Chris Eagles will play for the Clarets at Turf Moor after penning deals through various stages of the summer.

But Coyle revealed he may rest some of his stars who are carrying slight knocks to make sure they’re fighting fit and ready for next week’s Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

He added: “We’ve got one or two knocks. Wade Elliott, Kevin McDonald and Chris McCann, and Jay Rodriguez had a really horrible blister on the sole of his foot.

“One or two of them might not make Saturday but I’m hoping to have everyone available for first team selection for Sheffield Wednesday, apart from Clarke Carlisle, who’s suspended.”
