After months of delay, Blackpool Football Club have announced that work is to begin on a new 3,500 capacity south stand.
The new stand will increase the capacity of Bloomfield Road to more than 13,000.
Fans have grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress with the stadium and the news has been welcomed by supporters.
Glenn Bowley, of Blackpool Supporters Association, said: “It’s been a long time coming but I’m happy that work is about to start.
“First and foremost it will allow more Pool fans to see the team who were unable to get in for big games last season.
“I’m sure all the supporters are looking forward to seeing the stand go up and hope that once it opens we will still be playing Championship football in an appropriate stadium.”
The stand is set to be named in honour of Blackpool and England legend, Jimmy Armfield.
The money for the new facilities will be jointly financed by the Oyston family and Latvian investor Valeri Belokon and will take around 40 weeks to construct.
