MR DEPENDABLE Michael Howard says he will do everything he can to claim his left-back berth from Danny Adams as he aims to fight for a Morecambe first-team spot.
The former Swansea City star was first choice in the position until the arrival of Adams mid-way through Morecambe’s Conference promotion-winning season.
Howard missed out through injury - and Adams never looked back as he stormed to player of the season gongs during the last campaign.
That was in stark contrast to Howard, who spent much of the season on loan with Oxford United.
He seemed set for a summer move to the Conference club – but is now back in training with the Shrimps and is than happy to be amongst his old mates again.
“There was talk of a possible move to Oxford but that doesn’t look like it is going to happen now,” says Howard.
“But it was great to be back with the lads because I do love it here at Morecambe. We have a great bunch of lads and the supporters have always been great with me and my family.
“I am here to challenge for a place this year and I will give it my all. One of the reasons I went to Oxford was to keep match fit and it has worked in many ways because I have felt good in pre-season so far.”
