FORMER Morecambe striker Jon Newby is on the verge of signing for Scottish Division One side Greenock Morton.
As first revealed in the Lancaster and Morecambe Citizen in May, the Scottish side led the hunt for the one-time Liverpool man, who was released by Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy.
Newby has also played for Sheffield United, Bury, Huddersfield, York, Kidderminster, Wrexham and Southport.
He was Morecambe's joint top scorer with six from 11 starts.
