Padiham's U17s took Liverpool's FA U17 County Representative side right to the wire before finally losing a seven goal thriller 4-3 at The Arbories.
The young Storks conceded the winning goal two minutes into added on time in an excellent game of football staged as part of Padiham Sports Club's 60th anniversary celebrations.
Padiham led 1-0 through a 15th minute goal from Richard Geoghegan straight from a free-kick only for the visitors to hit back with two goals from Southport striker Billy Sutton on 35 and 43 minutes.
Ash Watson put Padiham on level terms at half-time with a goal just before the break.
A headed goal by Sutton on 82 minutes completed his hat-trick and put the County side 3-2 up, but just six minutes later Padiham were level again at 3-3 following a solo effort from Josh Cliffe.
But Liverpool's Kevin McEllin nicked the game two minutes into added-on time to complete a superb display of youth team football, worthy of the sports club's anniversary celebrations.
