BLACKBURN ROVERS midfielder Steven Reid received a welcome boost last night when a scan on his injured hamstring appeared to rule out any serious damage.

Reid felt pain in his hamstring during the first half of Tuesday night's reserve match with Liverpool, and he was immediately taken off by manager Glyn Hodges as a precaution.

Rovers' medical staff have since scanned the 26-year-old and initial results would suggest it's a strain rather than a tear, which means Reid could be back in training again early next week.

"They couldn't find anything at all on the scan so it might just have been some old scar tissue releasing itself," said chairman John Williams.

"They will scan Steven again in the next few days just to make sure they haven't missed anything and, assuming that's okay, he could be back in training again early next week."
