Anelka could miss trip to Munich

WANDERERS will be without top scorer, Nicolas Anelka, at West Ham tomorrow.

The France international has failed to respond to treatment on the hamstring injury he picked up in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and is now a major doubt for next Thursday's UEFA Cup group game away to Bayern Munich.

Joey O'Brien is also out of the Hammers game after straining a hamstring in Wednesday's Carling Cup defeat by Manchester City. But Gary Megson is hoping the impressive Andy O'Brien, who took a knock in the back in the cup game, will be fit to continue at the heart of his defence.

The Wanderers boss has dismissed speculation that Anelka could be a January transfer window target for a number of clubs, including City, one of his former clubs.

"People of the stature and the quality of Nicolas Anelka are always going to get other clubs interested," he said.

"It's always going to be in the press. There's nothing that's been set in stone either way, but there's nothing to deal with at the moment, so we'll not deal with it."

Hammers boss Alan Curbishley is hoping his midfield duo, Hayden Mullins and Mark Noble, who picked up knee and groin injuries respectively in the Carling Cup win at Coventry will be fit to face Wanderers.

Somebody else is definitely going to have to learn how to score in this team. Compare our stats to Bayern, Mr Megson. Two players have scored 8 each. Five players have scored more than once. Five players have scored once each. That is ten players who have scored this season.

Re. Anelka's situation 'there is nothing that has been set in stone either way' doesn't exactly reassure me. The club doesn't exactly sound desperate to keep hold of him. Ofcourse it might make sense to get £12 million for him if the money was a) made available and b) spent wisely on three other players but ofcourse we know better than to expect that. Its interesting isn't it that with only one fit striker in the squad for tomorrow that Helguson isn't even travelling with the squad. With Anelka a doubt for Thursday which is a massive blow. Why aren't we including another striker in the squad such as Helguson, Vaz Te (remember him?), or Harsanyi? Bit of a mystery to me that one though I know Megson has a reputation for packing his squad with defensive players. Anyway we can't complain about injuries for the West Ham game as they have a whole team out of good players through injury.

I agree mr hughes - a win is highly unlikely but we have to be as competitive as possible and I don't want to see us get hammered either except as you say in Marienplatz ;).

Having anelka out at bayern will mean we will play a less attacking game and make it difficult for bayern to break us down similar to the arsenal away performance and probably a similar result.

Keep Bayern down to 3-0 and it will be a result.
Get Anelka right for the Boro game. Love to see our best team give BM a run but the prem is more important.
What pubs beer houses in Marienplatz ? anybody???

Its full of them Ian if my dim and distant memory serves me correct (its touristy ofcourse but the square is the obvious place for away fans to gather) - in any case I'm sure you'll be able to spot the other 4,000 Bolton fans in them (all). I'll be the one with the tickets for sale sign (in the home end). Any German beer is better than the p*** served over here :)

No goals for Bayern in their last 2 games. Also the word you are looking for is Kniepen.

Augustiner Beer Halle is in Marienplatz. The Hofbrauhaus is off on one of the side streets. Hofbrauhaus is usually full of tourists, but the Augustiner is good. There is also Killians Irish Bar there, and at Rosenheimer Platz there is the Outland Pub. Up in Schwabing you will find the Shamrock. Unfortunately, one of my favourite haunts, Günther Murphys had to close this year :-(

Im not bothered if we do get hammered. We, Bolton Wanderers are playing Bayern Munich in a european competition. Looking at their side, its better than the German national team, and as there reserves beat England at Wembely, it would be quite a feat for Bolton to do anything. However if we do lose a draw in Belgrade and beating the greeks would see us through.

Bayern only drew 0-0 this weekend ,thats the second draw in 2wks they had 28-0 shots on goal and still couldnt score so the worm is there for all to see
If we go there thinking well lose then we wont get anything but goin there and giving them a run for their money and you never know
Their team have two gret players that Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose shut them out and we have a great chance
