IT was just like the old days last week when I pulled on a Rovers shirt and experienced the thrill of scoring against Manchester United!

For those who didn't see it, I was representing Rovers in the Premier League All-stars - a competition which featured former players, celebrity fans, and supporters from all 20 of the Premier League's member clubs.

We were first up on the Sunday night but, sadly, we didn't last long as a United side, featuring the likes of Angus Deayton, ended up beating us 3-1.

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the whole experience and it was particularly good to see Matt Jansen again, who was one of the ex-pros in our side.

It's sad how things have worked out for Matt, who, at 29, should still be playing in the Premiership, rather than in a competition for former players.

But that motorbike accident in Italy in 2002 turned his life upside down and he hasn't been the same guy since.

After all the trauma and heartache of the last five years, his confidence has taken one hell of a battering and he is a shell of his former self.

However, I really hope he doesn't walk away from the game for good.

There's talk the LA Galaxy are interested in signing him and I really hope he goes to America because a fresh start could be just what he needs.
